January Art news

What’s happening in the Mountain View Art Studio?

Kindergarten is learning all about the Elements of Art that artists use in their work.  We are now studying Texture.  Students are describing textures and identifying them in artworks as well as in their world.  We are creating texture collages, texture rubbings, and textures in clay.

1st grade is beginning a large-scale collage project based on the art and books by Eric Carle. Exploration of media and communicating a point of view are at the heart of this unit.

In 2nd grade, students are working on a long unit based on the art of Alexander Calder.  We are making paper mobile sculptures while focusing on line, movement, balance, and positive/negative space.

Students in grades 3, 4, and 5 are working in the art studio and have choices like sculpture, fibers, and printmaking. Printmaking will be explored with the focus on communication, art processes, and making connections to their world.  How does form follow function?
